Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to Washington, east to Alberta and Montana.
Habitat: Exposed, rocky places in the alpine to occasionally the subalpine;

Leaves somewhat thick, the basal ones ovate to kidney-shaped, sub-entire or with blunt teeth, the blade up to 2.5 cm. long and wide, abruptly contracted to the petiole; cauline leaves reduced upwards, becoming sessile, occasionally pinnatifid.
Heads solitary, or rarely 2, the disk 11-18 mm. wide, usually orange; involucre 7-8 mm. high, the bracts purplish; rays various, sometimes up to 14 mm. long and 4 mm. wide; pappus of numerous, white, capillary bristles.
Achene sub-terete.
